Competitive advantages and use. View from practitioners in Latvia.
In a number of cross-border commercial and financing transactions effected in Latvia, choosing English law as the governing law of the contracts is considered and applied by the parties involved in these deals.
The seminar will focus on overall experience and practice of working with international partners and clients, which will be particularly relevant for:
Companies involved in or preparing for exports, cross border trade and services
Wide range of financial sector companies
Strategic and financial investors, involved in mergers and acquisitions
Most typical situations of English law application in the Baltics. Practical examples. What are the advantages of English law? Are counterparties sufficiently protected? UK as dispute resolution venue. Interpretation and understanding of most commonly used concepts in commercial contracts under English law. Similar and distinctive features of Latvian and UK legal systems. Brexit impact considerations.
Māris Vainovskis, Deputy Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce, Senior partner at Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns, will give a presentation outlining both legal and business aspects of the English law and moderate a discussion to touch upon business leaders and legal practitioners experience both in Latvia and internationally.
